The World Cup start today. Over the next month, 32 national teams (the US did not make the cut) will be competing in Russia to win the trophy for the best soccer team in the world. The championship game will take place in Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 15th. The World Cup is run by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association). While American football is popular here in the states, the rest of the world watches what they call football and we call soccer. Over 3.2 billion people watched the last men’s World Cup in 2014. Over 750 million people watched the women’s World Cup in 2015 as well, easily eclipsing the 103 million people who watched this year’s Super Bowl.
