National Promotion Will Drive Consumers to AOA ODs for the Chance to Earn Prizes and Learn More About How to Achieve Healthy Sight, Enhance Their Performance
PINELLAS PARK, Fla., Nov. 11, 2010 – Transitions Optical, Inc., in collaboration with the American Optometric Association (AOA), is introducing the “Read the Green Sweepstakes” to raise awareness of the importance of healthy sight for athletic performance, and to drive consumers to AOA member doctor’s offices. Especially appealing to the nation’s millions of golf enthusiasts, the promotion offers patients a chance to win exclusive golf-related prizes. The participating doctors benefit with added traffic to their offices, as well as the opportunity to win the same prizes as their patients. The sweepstakes runs Nov. 22, 2010 through Feb. 14, 2011.
Consumers will be able to enter the sweepstakes by visiting www.readthegreen.com, and upon entry will be encouraged to visit their AOA optometrist to receive a validation code to enter for more significant prizes. When patients enter their doctor’s validation code, the doctor will be entered to win a matching prize. Prizes include a trip to a 2011 Major Championship or the 2011 Transitions Championship®, held in March in Tampa, Fla. – as well as a place in the Transitions Championship Pro-Am, and other prizes.
“Just as consumers turn to golf professionals for lessons, they should be seeing their trusted eyecare professionals to protect and maintain their healthy sight,” said Peter Kehoe, O.D., professional relations adviser for Transitions Optical. “This promotion opens the doors for important patient dialogue about the critical role of comprehensive eye exams and protective eyewear to maximize visual performance for our passions and to help ensure a lifetime of healthy sight.”
Transitions Optical will promote the sweepstakes through a national advertising and public relations campaign including magazines, online and television. Participating doctors can also raise awareness by displaying complimentary promotional materials in their offices and by following tips on the promotion website. The site also includes many additional exclusive resources.
“We join Transitions Optical in its commitment to educating consumers about the importance of vision to more fully enjoy the things we love, including hobbies like golf,” said Joe Ellis, O.D., president, AOA. “We are pleased to bring the Read the Green Sweepstakes exclusively to AOA doctors, who will be well positioned to counsel patients on their full eye health and vision needs.”
Each AOA member doctor will receive an activation kit in the mail the week of November 15 with more details about the sweepstakes, and can visit the website for more information any time after the sweepstakes goes live on November 22.
“The collective efforts of all of us in the industry will help consumers connect healthy sight to optimal sports performance and an overall healthy lifestyle,” said Connie Falvo, director of external affairs, Transitions Optical. “We hope that our sponsorship of the Transitions Championship and designation as the Official Eyewear of the PGA TOUR®, in collaboration with this new promotion and the efforts of the AOA and state affiliates, will help raise the profile of vision care and vision wear nationwide among consumers.”
