This new wood eyeglass line has an interesting name and a story. Pterys  is named after an eye disease called pterygium, that is common in tropical areas. One of the founders Sagar was in Haiti, which is where he discovered how common this preventable eye disease was and ergo… Ptery’s was founded, a wood sunglass line that gives back 10% to the Hope Alliance.  Working to empower people, The Hope Alliance, tries to get communities to become sustainable. in 2012, Hope Alliance started the Pterygium Awareness Project with the message of ‘Save Your Sight, Block UV Light’. One of Four Adults in tropical communities have this preventable disease which can be prevented by sunglasses and hats.

Currently they are on Indiegogo, and have raised over $9,000 of their $7500 goal. They want the money to actually manufacture their first collection, which is very wearable, coming in round and retro shapes.
