LAKELAND, TN, October 25, 2010 – At the recent National Opticians Convention, the Guild of Prescription Opticians (Guild) elected Kathryn Ring, owner of Eye Services of Jackson in Michigan, as Chair of the Guild Council.  Ms. Ring is a Guild Optician who has been actively involved in the organization for many years and currently serves as the Guild’s representative on the Opticians Association of America’s Board.

Kathryn Ring graduated from the Opticianry program at Ferris State University in 1972. She went on to receive her certification from the American Board of Opticianry that same year. She has been honored with the 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the Opticianry Association of Michigan and is very active in the Jackson, Michigan community.  Kathryn has been practicing Opticianry in Jackson since 1976.

Following her election as Guild Chair, Kathryn Ring had this to say, “the Guild represents the very best of the independent opticians across the country and I am extremely proud to be a member.  Being elected as Chair is an honor and my only hope is to serve the Guild members in a way that will make them proud to continue to wave the proud banner of the independent optician.”

Established in 1926, the Guild of Prescription Opticians (Guild) is governed by a code of ethics that requires its members to maintain the highest level of professional opticianry, thereby protecting the consumers’ interests; meet the high standards of the Guild to ensure that efficiency and service are always provided; furnish a source for eye care products and services, independent of those prescribing for eye care needs; promote the conservation of human eyesight; supply only the finest quality optical products and services, representing the state of the art of opticianry; and participate in and encourage continuing education for eye care professionals.
