FENDI is pleased to present a unique sunglasses capsule collection created in collaboration with the French designer Thierry Lasry for the next Spring/Summer 2015. A sophisticated collection inspired by graphic designs from the late 80’s and early 90’s that Silvia Venturini Fendi and Thierry Lasry have attentively selected from the FENDI archives.

The whole collection is characterized by Thierry Lasry’s unique artistic approach that features the design of a new pattern exclusively for the creation of this one-of-a-kind sunglasses capsule collection.

“I loved working with FENDI because I was really struck by their culture of perfection and savoir-faire and because we have in common the same artistic approach to the creation,” states Thierry Lasry. “Working with Silvia Venturini Fendi has been an amazing experience as she left me free to express in the capsule collection,” continues the designer.

The idea started from inspirational designs found in the FENDI archives, by their unique geometry and the strong colored shapes. Color combination is a key feature in this capsule collection.

Silvia Venturini Fendi and Thierry Lasry played with two of the FENDI’s iconic signatures, Graphism and Dualism, with an incredible attention to details and unique craftsmanship.

“It has been a very natural process of collaboration. Thierry himself has been, since the first moment, very FENDI, letting this capsule collection celebrate FENDI’s creativity and savoir-faire with a perfect blend between tradition, innovation and experimentation,” affirms Silvia Venturini Fendi.

Two unique patterns have been created with very specific techniques. One is inspired by the Cubism movement, which combines colors through layers, and the other is inspired by the Kinetic movement, which combines colors through geometric shapes.

The cubist pattern is created using the silkscreen lamination in which different layers of acetate are combined. The kinetic pattern combines different components of acetate creating a tridimensional effect that makes the block unique, rich and unexpected.

The two special designs of the sunglasses, Fanny and Sylvy, are developed in ultra-feminine shapes that evoke a strong, sensual and elegant woman.
Their names are inspired by the Dolce Vita period in Rome and show Thierry Lasry’s signature touch on them. In addition they feature the last letter being a Y as the final letters of the designer’s name and surname, heat pressed in white on the inside of the temples.

Fanny are a cat-eye shaped sunglasses with kinetic stylized pattern on the temples recalling a micro-Pequin texture in yellow, red and blue, paired with solid colored temples, for a striking effect.
Sylvy are a squared shape bold sunglasses with cubist pattern overlapping with a graphic stylized pattern and a transparent layer, resulting in a unique combination of textures and colors.

Both patterns have been created in two color variations, each one featuring an association of three colors which are combined on a two versus one basis. A dominant color is mixed with the other two creating a strong but pleasant contrast between them.

Fanny Kinetic pattern is realized in red burgundy together with yellow versus navy blue and salmon together with lilac versus grey.
On the other hand, Sylvy cubist pattern is based on grey together with black versus orange and brown together with black versus salmon.

Technical Information

The sunglasses are made in acetate, a very noble material, derived from vegetable fibers such as cotton flakes that allow unique color effects and shadings featuring incredible colors and textures.

They are very thick and made in 8 mm acetate. This is an unusual thickness for sunglasses that enables to play with all the layers while getting a special translucent effect and depth. The acetate being translucent, is noticeable both from the outside and the inside.

In order to develop these exclusive patterns in acetate, high quality, prestigious and historic craftsmen have worked on the production of these sunglasses. The temples are also exceptionally made in an unusual 6 mm thickness in order to be carved and to respect their ergonomic design for their tips making them more comfortable when in contact with the back of the head.

The metal core that goes inside the acetate of the temples is engraved on both sides, recalling the sunglasses’ acetate patterns. Hinges, metal core and the lenses have been selected from very high standards, paying attention to every single detail including the size of the engraved letters on the inside.

A special packaging has been created, an original pouch with a cubist pattern.
