Costa Introduces New Del Mar Collection of Sunglasses for Water Lovers Everywhere
Collection Speaks to Brand Heritage and Popularity of Beach Lifestyle Frames
With an eye to both the company’s past and future, Costa has introduced a new Del Mar Collection of sunglasses, with four new frames in multiple colorways of acetate inspired by all aspects of coastal life. The collection of frames, all named for iconic beach towns, represents the brand’s continued evolution and expansion of eyewear from an exclusive core performance fishing brand to one that expands its appeal to an overall beach and water-loving lifestyle. The collection is available April 1.
“Costa first debuted acetates early in our history, but we haven’t had a collection in this material since the 1980s. These new pieces have been extremely rewarding to curate and design,” said John Sanchez, vice president, product development, Costa. “We live and breathe everything about the water – both on and off – and have been inspired by beach destinations, so the Del Mar Collection has given us an opportunity to bring that to life. From the strong craftsmanship, to the unique colorways and logo treatment, we have created a beautiful collection that will appeal to Costa fans everywhere.”
Premium Frame Construction & Design
The collection’s frame construction is best-in-class, made with Mazzucchelli acetate and 5-barrel hinges optimal for a superior fit while maintaining a premium look. The screws elevate the quality of the acetate line with a plastic coating injected around the threading for a smooth open and close. Each piece incorporates a custom galvanized corewire, visible inside the frame piece, with a topographical pattern which ties the pieces back to Costa’s oceanic roots. Two of the new colorways (one each in the May and Sarasota frame styles) are constructed using a special block inlay procedure that bonds two sheets of acetate together for a distinct dual-color look. All frames are 6 base.
The Aransas is an extremely wearable unisex frame style. The decorative plaque design evokes the venting used on the brand’s core performance pieces, creating a cohesive family of products for Costa fans. The Costa logo is diamond-cut to give it a premium texture. Colorways include Matte Black, Shiny Ocean Tortoise, Matte Storm Gray and Shiny Kelp.
The Del Mar is a unisex frame with a modern take on the classic keyhole design element with a round lens shape. The shape has a modern temple and a classic front for a look very current and popular on the West Coast and Northeast. This frame also features the diamond-cut Costa logo. Frame colors include Shiny Black, Shiny Ocean Tortoise, Shiny Kelp and Matte Tide Pool.
The Sarasota is a female-oriented frame with a soft, timeless cat-eye shape. This frame features a small to medium fit with a mother-of-pearl treated logo, as well as one colorway of bonded acetate for a unique dual-color, Shiny Seafoam Crystal with Shell Inlay. Other colorways include Shiny Black, Shiny Abalone and Shiny Dusk.
The female-targeted May frame has a medium fit with a square lens shape and delicate design features. Like the Sarasota, this frame also includes the exclusive mother-of-pearl treated logo and features one colorway of bonded acetate for a dual-color look, Shiny Coral Crystal with Shell Inlay. Additional frame colorway options include Shiny Black, Shiny Abalone and Shiny Tiger Cowrie.
“We love the look of acetates, with its warmth, luxurious and confident style. Quite simply, we can do things with colorways and design that we can’t do using other materials, and we’re excited to bring this new arm of our brand portfolio to the market,” concluded Sanchez.
All Glass Lenses
The entire collection features Costa’s beyond polarized lenses, all in glass. Mirror coatings are scratch resistant. All pairs retail for $249.
