SANTA ANA – A class-action lawsuit over the connection between a local company’s contact lens solution and vision-destroying infections has been cleared to proceed, a prominent law firm announced Monday.
The class action lawsuit against Santa Ana-based Abbott Medical Optics, Inc. was certified by Orange County Superior Court Judge David C. Velasquez.
The plaintiffs allege that the Complete MoisturePlus line of contact lens solution made by Advanced Medical Optics (which was bought by Abbott earlier this year) either caused or failed to prevent severe eye infections known as acanthamoeba keratitis, which can lead to scarring, vision loss, and an eventual transplant of the entire cornea.
An outbreak of acanthamoeba infections in 2007 led to a voluntary recall of the product line. Read the full article at the OC Register
