ClearVision Optical makes it a mission to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Staying true to its philosophy, this optical leader recently donated eyewear and lenses to a local family featured on ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Grace and John Lutz of East Setauket, NY, were unable to have children when they decided to adopt.  Over the course of their marriage, they adopted a total of 18 children including seven with Down syndrome. After Grace and John both passed away, the oldest daughter Kathleen moved back home to take care of her younger siblings.  Soon after, Kathleen was unexpectedly diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.  Her brother, John Jr., then moved back home to care for his sister and other six siblings. Kathleen is since now in stable health condition, but her and her brother work together as a team to care for the family.

In June 2010, the family was awarded a brand-new home as part of the upcoming Extreme Makeover show. Upon hearing of the Lutzes’ circumstances, ClearVision decided to provide eyewear and lenses for the entire Lutz family.

In addition to funding several charitable causes, ClearVision gives directly to the optical community by providing free eyewear that is used to help those who cannot afford eyecare but are in desperate need. Over the past few years, ClearVision and members of the Friedfeld family have been honored by countless charities, including Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Food Bank, AHRC and United Cerebral Palsy.

The Lutzes’ Makeover will air in the Fall of 2010 on ABC.
