100% Optical, the UK’s largest trade event for optical professionals, launched their visual merchandising competition, challenging students to design unique window displays based on the latest eyewear trends. Four designers have been shortlisted and their design concepts will be on display at 100% Optical to inspire brands/opticians to create attractive and enticing window displays.

100% Optical have been keen to champion British design talent in the run up to the show, with design competitions set up with the Royal College of Art and now Falmouth University for the Visual Design competition. The competition is a demonstration of the competencies associated with Visual Merchandising. Each entry will be judged on the key principles of window display:

  • Conducting research based on lifestyle concepts and trends
  • Sketching designs
  • Development floor plans
  • Maximising the space and layout of the window
  • Styling mannequins and props
  • Making creative use of lighting
  • Qualities of effective window display
  • Design

The winning design will be judged by Michael Wheedon and award winning designers, KSHT on the 9th February at 100% Optical, Excel London.
