A version of the phoropter called a optometer was introduced in the early 1900’s. The name of Phoropter was patented in 1925 by Reichert. Throughout the years, the look of a phoropter, with a straight top bar and round lenses with a curved bridge and cross bar has been used to make fashion statements, has been seen on runways and in advertisements.
