Wiley X Eyewear x Skeet Reese Treat Kids To A Day Of Fishing

WILEY X® EYEWEAR PRO ANGLER SKEET REESE TREATS KIDS TO FISHING ADVENTURE ON SAN FRANCISCO BAY

Youngsters Enjoy Sun, Sites and Sportfishing Fun Aboard 50-foot Charter Vessel Captain Hook

Leading protective sunglass manufacturer Wiley X® Eyewear and world renowned professional bass angler Skeet Reese recently teamed up to treat a group of youngsters from Lorenzo Manor Elementary School, in Hayward, CA, just south of Oakland, to a day of fishing fun on San Francisco Bay.

After hearing about this Cornerstone Fellowship Church inner city children’s ministry last winter from Wiley X’s Director of Outdoor Sales Mark Fisher, Skeet and his wife Kim responded by sending the group a 10-pound bar of chocolate for Christmas. But this latest act of generosity and compassion of chartering an entire 50-foot sport fishing boat for the day was way off the charts compared to that holiday gift.

The trip took place on September 18th aboard the 50-foot Captain Hook out of Emeryville Sportfishing.  Along with church volunteers, Skeet and Kim and their two daughters all devoted the day to make sure these kids had plenty of attention, affection, and fishing help. Wiley X made sure eyes were protected with sunglasses — Wiley X is the only premium performance sunglass manufacturer whose entire line meets ANSI Z87.1-2003 high velocity and high mass impact and optical performance standards.  Other sponsors were also gracious to make the day even more special with donations from Plano Molding Company, Okuma Fishing Tackle, Top Brass Tackle and B.A.S.S.

An added bonus was having one of the world’s best professional fishermen, Bassmaster Classic Champion and B.A.S.S. Angler-of-the-Year Skeet Reese along to help them catch fish (and untangle lines).  Reese has enjoyed a long relationship with Wiley X, serving on the company’s Pro Angler Team and even designed his own Skeet Reese Signature Series sunglass model. “It’s always a heartwarming experience to share my love of fishing with kids,” said Reese.  “Enjoying a day on the water through the eyes of a young boy or girl —
it’s like going fishing for the first time again,” added Reese.

“For Skeet, this adventure wasn’t intended for any publicity. However, we felt that all these smiles were a cause for celebration, and we wanted to share an example of the huge hearts in so many superstars of this sport,” said Fisher.  “In May, Skeet and Kim organized a fishing day near their home in Meadow Vista, CA, that introduced several hundred youngsters to fishing. So this Bay Trip is completely within character for them. We’re so proud to have Skeet representing Wiley X,” added Fisher.

The bite this day wasn’t wide open, but that didn’t really matter.  The youngsters reeled in a few short and legal-sized halibut, some smelt, a keeper-sized striped bass and a small smoothound shark (always a big hit with kids).  As Fisher summarized, being out on the bay, enjoying the sights and sounds of the ocean and marine life, and experiencing this together with friends and adults who care— these were the true “catch of the day.”
