Moonwoods- Eco Friendly Wood Eyewear and Jewelry

Phleps - This is a wrap Style, hard to do with wood

I ran across another wood eyewear company, Moonwoods, and how incredible they are and such a great selection.  Moonwoods Handcrafted Wooden Eye wear based in Oregon was started three years ago by husband and wife team Danielle and Justin Wayland. As sculptors and spectacle wearers they wanted marry art and function while expanding the boundries of craft and woodworking.  Both were unsatisfied with wearing plastic or aluminum frames, feeling that eyewear through which you see the world everyday should reflect your vision for it.

The Wood Spectacle Frames are made from milled ends of various hardwoods.  Milled ends are scraps that carpenters discard because of their “useless” size.  This same size is perfect for a pair of specs.

They  hand carve each pair from the single block of wood using traditional bench techniqes and an array of japanese sawing and joining skills.  Each pair is customized to their clients wish list and fitted only to them.  Finishing is a natural beeswax and oil to seal the wood without harsh chemicals etc..

Even more eco Friendly- they  then use our scraps to create rings and other jewelry items.

In the future they will be offering five RTW classic styles internationally through the website as well as select boutiques.  (SPRING/11)
