Modo: Past and Future – Spring Summer Eyewear 2012

Modo blends its inspiration for this season’s collection both from its own legacy and its vision for the future.

Informed by the rich history of design at Modo, the Soho-based company’s creative team delivers a range of retro-inspired styles with a decidedly modern feel. The process begins with an exploration of the very roots that made Modo the recognized, distinct boutique brand it is today, then mixing in modern, innovative details and directions. Approaching the Spring 2012 season with a nod to the past but its gaze focused on a bright future, Modo presents an exciting mix of styles destined to become timeless classics.

Shapes range from soft, modified and shallow rectangles to round and ovals. Each frame is handmade and lovingly finished in Japan. Plastics are chosen from the finest Italian and Japanese handmade acetates each season. The Metals are all Titanium – the premier material for eyewear which is ultra-light, hypo-allergenic, flexible yet incredibly strong and durable.

Model 211, 212 – a continuation of the retro-inspired theme in metal, these smaller scale acetates mirror the oval and soft rectangle shapes of the 136 and 137. Dual colorations add extra interest, for example Matte Honey front with Dark Tortoise temples or Solid Black with Tokyo Tortoise temples. The bold enamel color pops up again on the temple tips to complete the story.

Model 6025, 6026,– Modo’s signature acetate concept is carried on here with four unique new shapes including a petite women’s cat eye (6026), a modern oversized rectangle for women (6025)  Materials extend the color story to new heights with rich classic tortoises and horns while injecting of-the-moment hues such as Moss Green, Lavender and Red. All styles feature the subtle Modo square metal detailing at the hinge and logo plaque.

Model 3031, 3032 – the bookends of the retro-inspired story. These two timeless styles are the quintessential mix of acetate and titanium. In the men’s rectangle (3032) the acetate brow is accentuated by subtly textured titanium eye rims, bridge and temples. The women’s cat eye (3031) incorporates acetate temples for a softer, yet classic appeal. Colors range from classic solid blacks and torts to a beautiful purple crystal.
