A new eyewear company out of Los Angeles has come up with a different concept in recycling eyewear. Modern Earth Originals or MEO encourages wearers to bring their old frame back to the retailer where they were purchased and place in a Donation Program box. In turn for donating their old eyeglasses, they receive a $2o credit toward new MEO frames.
Working exclusively with West Coast Lens a optical surfacing lab and Hoya Vision, they either place a common prescription in the eyewear and donate them for people who need eyeglasses to see.
Trying to be environmentally responsible and lower their carbon footprints, they encourage optical retailers to order online through West Coast Lens, reducing paper and packaging cost, plus reducing dependence on oil equating to a lower carbon footprint.
With millions of people needing eyewear every year, sounds like a great idea!
